Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how TalkMei ( "talkmei.com," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our website, web application, mobile applications, and related services ("Services").
1. Information we collect
- Account and authentication. When you create or sign in to an account, we collect identifiers and profile data handled by our authentication provider (for example, email address and authentication tokens). In our mobile apps, sign-in methods may include email/password and third-party identity providers (such as Apple Sign In or Google Sign-In), depending on platform support and availability. We also store learner profile fields you choose to provide or that we derive to personalize tutoring (such as preferences, goals, fluency cues, and session summaries).
- Practice and tutoring activity. We collect information about your learning sessions—for example timestamps, modes, high-level metrics (such as approximate speaking duration and turn counts), summarized feedback themes, topics practiced, and related notes used to personalize your experience.
- Voice, audio, and AI conversation content. When you use voice features in the Services, microphone audio may be streamed in real time to third-party AI services to transcribe speech, generate tutoring responses, and synthesize tutor audio. Related text (such as transcripts and model outputs) may be processed by those providers in connection with delivering the live session. We design the product so that conversational content is handled to operate the Services and improve your session experience; we do not sell your personal conversations.
- Payments. If you subscribe or pay through our checkout flow (including web-based checkout flows opened from a mobile app), payment details are handled by our payment processor. We receive limited billing-related information necessary to administer your plan (for example subscription status managed in our backend).
- Analytics and diagnostics. We may collect usage analytics on the marketing site—for example aggregated page or event data—when analytics tools such as Google Analytics are enabled for our deployment. Our mobile applications are not designed to use advertising tracking SDKs for cross-app tracking at this time. These tools and logs operate under their respective privacy notices and your browser or platform controls.
- Messages you send to us and help chat. If you contact support or use on-site help features, we process the contents of those messages to reply and improve support quality.
- Technical information. Standard server and application logs may include IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, device type, referrer, timestamps, and error diagnostics—used for security, reliability, debugging, abuse prevention, and understanding aggregate traffic patterns.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to provide, personalize, operate, analyze, maintain, and improve the Services; process payments and subscriptions; protect users and enforce our terms; troubleshoot and prevent fraud or misuse; comply with law; communicate with you about the Services; and (where enabled) measure marketing site effectiveness.
3. How we share information
We disclose information only as needed to operate the Services, consistent with this policy and applicable law. Categories of recipients typically include:
- Hosting, database, and auth. Our application data and authentication are hosted with trusted infrastructure providers.
- Payments. Our payment processor handles card and wallet payments.
- AI and voice inference. Third-party AI providers receive session inputs (including streamed audio during live voice use) strictly as needed to return model outputs.
- Analytics. Providers such as Google Analytics, when configured, may receive pseudonymous identifiers and browsing or event data tied to cookies or similar technologies.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or legal process; to protect TalkMei, our users, or the public; or as part of a merger, financing, restructuring, acquisition, dissolution, or asset sale (subject to safeguards where applicable).
4. Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to operate the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Exact retention varies by data type and system; backups may persist for a limited period afterward.
5. Security
We implement technical and organizational measures appropriate to our stage and risk, including access controls aligned to authenticated users for personal data rows in our application database under normal operation. In mobile apps, authentication sessions may be stored in platform secure storage to keep you signed in between launches. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure—please protect your credentials and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Where available, privacy laws may give you appeal rights regarding automated decisions or profiling—or the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights. To exercise privacy rights consistent with verification and law, contact us through our Contact page.
Voice features require microphone access on your device. You may refuse or revoke permission in OS settings—live tutoring will then be unavailable in the relevant clients.
For analytics cookies or similar signals on the website, consult your browser settings—tools like Google Analytics also offer privacy controls documented by Google.
7. Learners of any age (minors and parents)
TalkMei is intended for Mandarin learners broadly and may be used by adults, teens, and younger learners. If you are a minor—or not legally able to enter binding agreements on your own where you live—you should create and use an account only with the permission and appropriate supervision of a parent or legal guardian, including for voice features and any paid subscription.
Children's privacy laws (such as COPPA in the United States or similar rules elsewhere) can require specific steps around personal information collected from younger users. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions, wish to withdraw consent, or want us to review or delete information associated with your child's use of the Services where the law recognizes that request, reach out through our Contact page and we will respond consistent with verification requirements and applicable law.
8. International users
We operate from the United States and may process personal information here or with service providers elsewhere. Cross-border transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards where required—such as standard contractual clauses, adequacy findings, or other lawful transfer mechanisms—with details available upon request addressed to our contact channel below.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes may be signaled by posting the revised notice on talkmei.com and updating the "Last updated" date above. Where required, we provide additional consent or advance notice.
